Hi, My name is Jasmine Navarro and I’m a certified co-active transitional life coach. Instragram.com/withava. I work with clients who are seeking change in their lives, but not sure where or how to start and I work with clients who are experiencing unplanned change too.
What is your story? How did you end up here?
I grew up in England with my mum and brother and we were all really close. The strongest memory I have was when I found out from the local newspaper that my father had passed away. I was 18 years old at that time and it was the most traumatic thing that ever happened to me. I remember feeling a wave of pure dread cloud over me. From that day on, my life changed forever and I guess it shaped me into the person I am today. I was drowning in so many painful feelings – loss, grief, blame, despair, hate, and so many more. I didn't know what to do with them. I sank so quickly into a deep depression that I didn't even know why I was depressed (or how to admit it to myself).
In the next 8 years, I lived my life in and out of waves of black depression. All I wanted to do was escape those dark feelings. I carried on as best as I knew how. I had never been a quitter.
I had always loved travelling, so on the days when I was feeling okay, I completed a teaching course and then went to live and work in Turkey to gain some teaching experience. It was when I was there, that I realized and admitted to myself that the death of my father had been the reason why I had been so depressed. Up until that point I hadn't admitted it to myself, as he wasn't my real father and I felt that I didn't deserve to feel the pain I had been feeling. I was bullied at school as his real daughter had studied there, too.
This was a huge realization for me, one that would have taken years for me to realize had I remained home. After living in Turkey for 18 months, I next went to live in Switzerland and there I learned that the death of my father was not my fault. This was the most important realization for me, and I never experienced that depression again.
I knew that I had a long way to go but the relief of this was life changing. I still had many feelings bottled up and that I had yet to deal with, but now I knew to deal with one big feeling at a time, otherwise, it would have been too much to deal with them all at once. Now 17 years and 11 countries later, I am settled in Dubai and have been here for 5 years. I feel like my life could have gone many ways and I am happy with the path I chose. My life has been incredibly interesting and diverse, and I have learnt so much on my journey. I wouldn't change it for the world! Sometimes I wonder if I was running away from my feelings. Maybe I was, but it really helped me to manage them that way.
I am now a certified co-active life coach. It's my passion to work with others to help them find the courage to deal with any painful feelings they may have, create new emotions that serve them, and help them accept their true selves. It’s something I could have benefited from all those years ago. I am a firm believer that we all need to follow our unique paths and we need courage to do this. We need to be kind to ourselves and be our own best friend and with this we can do, well, almost anything.
Do you have a “WHY” for why you do what you do?
I feel I went through these experiences so I am equipped to work with clients who are going through similar situations. Having my coaching business allows me to continually develop myself and then share my knowledge and help others transform their lives too. Helping others helps me too. It doesn’t feel like a job for me. It is my mission.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans are to build a coaching empire raising awareness of the benefits of coaching, working with others to help them live the life they really desire. Collaborating with others to add value to each other too.
What is the best about being who you are?
I love being me as I finally feel free; free from judging myself, free from putting up barriers, free from knowing that nobody is wrong and nobody is right. Just free to be me and that is a great feeling :) I’m also a risk taker with lots of courage :)
What does your day look like?
Everyday I aim to do some kind of exercise in the morning, whether it is swimming or walking. This sets me up for the day in a positive mood. I then spend one or two hours training myself on business and marketing. Then I spend some time networking and giving coach sessions. I also write some days too as my dream is to write a book :)
What business-related tips and advice do you have for our readers?
The key for me is to accomplish one or two tasks each day, having too many things to do can leave you feeling overwhelmed, stressed and then feeling seriously unmotivated.
Be kind to yourself, do not beat yourself up.
As soon as you wake up, think of three things to be grateful for.
Exercise first thing in the morning to set you up for the day in a positive state.
What mindset advice do you have for our readers?
The best advice is to be aware of what words you are saying to yourself through the day. Would you say these to your best friend? When you are unkind to yourself, how can you feel confident and motivated? On the mirror write “I am enough” I did this and it changed my life, don’t wait to feel complete and enough, feel it now. Say this to yourself everyday and watch the transformation in you. Sounds silly but it works!
